(2 Chr 7:14) "if My people who are called by My name will humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land.
Last week we talked about what revival is and how God used certain unlikely people in the past to be a catalyst for revival. Then there was the encouragement to be the one God will use to spark a revival. But now the question is this: Does revival just happen? Does God just choose when a revival will take place? Or is there something we can do to prepare ourselves for revival? In other words . . . is there a road to revival?
I do believe in the sovereignty of God and that He can send revival at anytime. But as I view Scripture I also believe God prepares our hearts for revival. Our key verse has the insights we need to put us on the road to revival. It’s from Solomon’s prayer that he prayed when he dedicated the Temple to the Lord. He said if God was withholding blessings on the land then this would change if His people would:
HUMBLE THEMSELVES. That means they would have to let go of their foolish pride and confess their stubbornness and self-sufficiency. (James 4:10) Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and He will lift you up.
PRAY AND SEEK GOD’S FACE. They would have to have an abiding relationship with God through prayer and start doing things God’s way. (Jer 29:13) And you will seek Me and find Me, when you search for Me with all your heart.
TURN FROM THEIR WICKED WAYS. They would have to have full and not half-hearted repentance in all areas of their lives. (Mat 3:8) "Therefore bear fruits worthy of repentance.
If a person or a people would do the above then God would hear from heaven, forgive their sin, and heal their land. In other words, God would bring revival. God’s methods do not change. What is written for God’s people of yesterday is for His people today.
Are you on the road to revival? Are you full of pride and do you need to humble yourself? Are you praying and seeking God’s face or have you neglected your personal devotion/s and haven’t checked in with God for a while? Have you turned from your wicked ways by confessing and forsaking the compromises you have been making in your life? If you do these things you are well on the road to revival! If we do these things together then we’re going to see a revival like never before!!
Tired of fighting with God? Are you weary of wrestling with what you know is right? Are you willing for God to finally take over? Then make a U-turn and find yourself on the road to revival! Louie
