(Psa 37:25) I have been young, and now am old . . .
As much as we try to fight it, we’re all getting older! And that’s hard to accept in a country that has an obsession with youthfulness. But the Bible has some very encouraging things to say about getting older:
THE LORD WILL NEVER FORSAKE YOU - (Psa 37:25) I have been young, and now am old; Yet I have not seen the righteous forsaken, Nor his descendants begging bread.
GOD HAS PROMISED DAILY STRENGTH - (Deu 33:25) . . . As your days, so shall your strength be.
GOD WILL PROVIDE ALL YOUR NEEDS AS YOU GROW OLDER - (Phil 4:19) And my God shall supply all your need according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus.
GOD’S GOODNESS WILL MAINTAIN YOUR INNER YOUTHFULNESS - (Psa 103:5) Who satisfies your mouth with good things, So that your youth is renewed like the eagle's.
GOD HAS HIS OWN PLAN FOR YOUR “ACTIVE LIVING” - (Psa 92:14) They shall still bear fruit in old age; They shall be fresh and flourishing,
GOD WANTS TO USE YOU TO INSPIRE THE YOUNGER GENERATION - (Psa 71:18) Now also when I am old and grayheaded, O God, do not forsake me, Until I declare Your strength to this generation, Your power to everyone who is to come.
GOD WANTS TO BLESS YOU WITH YOUR GROWING FAMILY - (Job 42:16) After this Job lived one hundred and forty years, and saw his children and grandchildren for four generations.
YOU CAN BE A PRAYER WARRIOR FOR YOUR FAMILY - (Luke 2:37) and this woman (Anna) was a widow of about eighty-four years, who did not depart from the temple, but served God with fastings and prayers night and day.
THE BIBLE PROMISES A NEW BODY - (1 Cor 15:53) For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal must put on immortality.
KEEP GOING AND GROWING BECAUSE GOD’S REWARD AWAITS YOU! - (Mat 25:21) "His lord said to him, 'Well done, good and faithful servant; you were faithful over a few things, I will make you ruler over many things. Enter into the joy of your lord.'
With promises like these we can truly serve the Lord no matter how old we are. Old age without the Lord and the hope of eternal life can be a vain existence (Eccl 12:1-8). But with the Lord, those sunset years can truly be like a beautiful and filled with God’s array of colors giving beauty to a needy world. That’s how Caleb saw it. His exemplary attitude from his younger days continued on into his senior years and he stood giving testimony to the goodness and grace of God . . . just like you will be able to! (Num 13:27-30, 14:22-24; Josh 14:6-14).
