(Deu 1:30) The Lord your God, who goes before you, He will fight for you . . .
When you’ve never been to a certain destination, you can kind of feel apprehensive about it. That’s why so many people go to the same place all the time or they book tours that plan everything for you. But what about when the Lord puts you out there where you have never been before? It’s nice to know that God has promised to go before us.
The children of Israel were for many years slaves in Egypt. Now they were free and on their way to the Promised Land. But they had never been that way before and there were inhabitants to evict from their new home. Scary! But God said He would precede them and would fight for them and would be there for them in their time of need. This would alleviate their fears and keep them from discouragement. (Deu 31:8) And the Lord, He is the One who goes before you. He will be with you, He will not leave you nor forsake you; do not fear nor be dismayed.” We have the same promise from the Lord as we walk the pilgrim pathway and claim all the blessings He has for us.
When we are road-weary from all the travel and all the hassles from the long journey, we can take heart from the fact that He has gone ahead of us like a pace car. We are really in convoy with the Lord and His angels who are out in front of us, spearheading the way and cutting through the difficulties! (Isa 45:2) ‘I will go before you And make the crooked places straight; I will break in pieces the gates of bronze And cut the bars of iron. May the Lord open our eyes to see it! (2 Kings 6:17) . . . Then the Lord opened the eyes of the young man, and he saw. And behold, the mountain was full of horses and chariots of fire all around Elisha.
On the road of life, we just don’t have to drive recklessly or be in a hurry. (Isa 52:12) For you shall not go out with haste, Nor go by flight; For the Lord will go before you, And the God of Israel will be your rear guard. We can be calm and let the Lord lead the way. He has everything figured out. No need to panic or be erratic. We’ll get to our destination on time!
Prior to Jesus being crucified, He told his disciples that He would rise again and meet them in Galilee. (Mark 14:28) “But after I have been raised, I will go before you to Galilee.” What a great thought that Jesus is alive and goes before us! We don’t have to figure this Christian life out on our own. Wherever we go in life, He has gone before us. He is way out there in our future already. He sees the way for us to take. All we need do is trust Him and let Him lead.
Maybe you’re in a place presently where the direction you are taking is filling you with anxiety. No need to worry! He has gone before you and all you need to do is follow. Rejoice! Many blessings lay ahead!!
