They took branches of palm trees and went out to meet Him, and cried out: "Hosanna! 'Blessed is He who comes in the name of the LORD!' The King of Israel!" (John 12:13)
What a great day it was. Jesus rode into town on that donkey and the people lifted their voices to welcome this King into the great city Jerusalem. Can you imagine the voices of the multitude crying out their hosannas to the King of Israel as they waved their palm branches on that road? But as quickly as they ascended in their praises to Jesus is as quickly as they declined into their denunciation of Him. In just a few days they would cry out, “crucify Him!” And as the palm branches were withering brown and brittle on the street, Jesus’ palms were pierced with nails the size of railroad spikes.
The offer of the kingdom of God through Christ was rejected by the Jews. But He rose from the dead and the Church age commenced and you and I have been included in the plan of salvation through Jesus. But one day the times of the Gentiles will be fulfilled and Jesus will reign on the earth with His saints. For the earth will be filled with the knowledge of the glory of the Lord, as the waters cover the sea (Hab 2:14). Every palm of man will be raised to the King of kings in honor of the One who is worthy to reign on the throne. Palm Sunday was a glorious day but it didn’t last long. But heaven will last forever and hosannas will be sung throughout the ages. Praise the Lord!
How patient the Lord is to wait for His rule on the earth. How He puts up with so much as He works out His sovereign design among men and nations, all in anticipation of that great and glorious hour. His kingdom has been delayed . . . but it’s really right on time!
Dear saint . . . the Lord knows the struggle you are going through. Your blessing has been delayed but it’s coming! There is a purpose that God is working out and it’s all for your good. (Rom 8:28) Here is a wonderful promise from the Lord: If we endure, we shall also reign with Him . . . (2 Tim 2:12)
God’s delays are not His denials. So keep on singing your hosannas because He loves you and favors you. He’ll prove it one day when He shows you His palms.
