(1 Pet 3:15) . . . always be ready . . .
I love the feeling of being ready for something. You’ve been looking forward to it. You’ve been preparing. And now you’re all set to go. And then there is the opposite feeling of not being prepared. You feel rushed. You didn’t have enough time. It came so suddenly, and you don’t feel equipped. God wants to reach others with His love and He’s looking for vessels He can use at any time. Will you be one of them? Will you be on standby for the Lord when He taps you for a task? Will you be like Isaiah and say, “Here am I! Send me?” (Isa 6:8)
It’s interesting that the Lord could use other means than human beings to reach human beings. He could use angels or write a message in the sky. But he uses people to reach people. Listen to the Lord’s heart for the lost: (2 Pet 3:9) The Lord is . . . not willing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance. And then there is the cry of God to reach the lost through us: (Isa 6:8) Also I heard the voice of the Lord, saying: "Whom shall I send, And who will go for Us?" . . . He looks across the whole earth for a willing vessel: (2 Chr 16:9)"For the eyes of the LORD run to and fro throughout the whole earth, to show Himself strong on behalf of those whose heart is loyal to Him . . . Will you be that one God can use? Then you’ll have to be ready!
(Mat 24:44) "Therefore you also be ready . . .
(2 Tim 4:2) Be ready in season and out of season . . .
(Titus 3:1) . . . be ready for every good work.
(1 Pet 3:15) . . . always be ready to give a defense to everyone who asks you a reason for the hope that is in you . . .
I used to limit God by my limitations. I would basically tell God that I don’t feel adequate for a certain task. I can do this God, but I can’t do that. If I feel ready and qualified, then I’ll do it. If not, God will have to get someone else. How I passed over many opportunities to serve the Lord! I missed out on the thrill of being used by God. I was hindered by fear and insecurity. But now I’m over it. I told the Lord He could use me any time and any place. I might not feel adequately prepared, but I am ready for God to use me. When I’m feeling good or when I’m feeling bad. When I feel prepared or when I’m feeling scared. When I’m in the mood or need some food, it doesn’t matter. I’m His servant ready at His bidding.
It’s interesting when you come to this point in your Christian walk that God will take you up on your offer. God will put you together with those who need the Master’s touch on their lives. Others have been saying “no” but you will say, “Let’s go!” In so doing you will experience the joy and excitement of being a part of God’s program in reaching souls for Jesus! Sometimes it won’t be easy, and you’ll have to pay the price. But keep in mind the reward for serving Jesus compares to nothing here on earth. Are you ready to always be ready? Then why don’t you tell the Lord right now . . . I’m ready!
