A BROKEN SPIRIT

The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit, A broken and a contrite heart; These, O God, You will not despise. (Psa 51:17)

Do you have a broken and a contrite spirit? Broken means to be “shattered in pieces”. Contrite means “to be crushed”.

What does it mean? It means you have a humbled spirit fully repentant of sin. It also means that you have come to a point of weakness in your life. Like king David, you know you have transgressed and you therefore feel broken and crushed inside. This is the humble posture God accepts. God cannot receive one with a silly notion of self-dependence. We must come to the cross, broken and crushed, helpless and in despair. Until then we have no hope of salvation. And this is also the attitude we must maintain before God always. Are the circumstances of life crushing and breaking you? Then you are being taken out of the way so only Jesus will remain. I know it hurts, but you will now be able to offer to God an acceptable sacrifice.

“The flame shall not hurt thee; I only design, thy dross to consume, and thy gold to refine.”
