SEX

Marriage is honorable among all, and the bed undefiled; but fornicators and adulterers God will judge. (Heb 13:4)

Sex is so overdone in our society. It used to be reserved for privacy between two married lovers but now it sells toothpaste! Everywhere you look you see the provocative, and you can’t escape it. What’s a Christian to do in a sex-saturated society?

We need to know that God created sex in the first place, way back in the garden of Eden. God told Adam to be fruitful and multiply (Gen 1:28). Then in the Song of Solomon we find a beautiful description of a married couple in love and enjoying each other in a physical and passionate way. In Proverbs 5:19 it says this, “As a loving deer and a graceful doe, Let her (your wife) breasts satisfy you at all times; And always be enraptured with her love.” So we see from these scriptures that God created sex not only for procreation but also for mutual enjoyment.

Now isn’t it like Satan to take something so beautiful and defile it? Our society has been deceived by the father of all lies and now sex is up there along with greed as the two twin idols of our generation. Our culture is so saturated with sex that you feel like righteous Lot in Sodom who was vexed in his spirit day after day by the filthy conversation of the world (2 Pet 2:7-8). But God’s law never changes and we must emphatically say that sex outside of marriage is sinful and will be judged by God.

Any specific scriptures on that?

-Homosexuality (Genesis 19; Romans 1:27).

-Adultery (Genesis 20:3; Exodus 20:14; Hebrews 13:4)

-Fornication (Galatians 5:19-21; Hebrews 13:4)

Marriage is honorable, the Bible says. Why are people so afraid of tying the knot? Are they afraid of getting knotted up? People say they have to still satisfy themselves but they end up sinning against their own body (1 Cor 6:18). But our bodies are the temple of the Holy Spirit and we are to use them in a way that glorifies God. The marriage bed is undefiled. God has provided for our physical enjoyment in a way that He is glorified. One can exercise self-control as an enablement of God (Gal 5:22-23) and wait to satisfy that drive in the way God intended. Sex is a wonderful expression of love between a man and a woman who have committed themselves for life in marriage. The world says lust is great. But the Bible says the greatest of these is LOVE! (1 Cor 13:13)
