YOUR FUTURE

For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says the LORD, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope. (Jer 29:11)

Everybody wants to know their future. We spend a lot of time thinking about it and wondering what twists and turns our lives will take and where we’re going to end up. We hope we will have a good life and that’s all we usually wish for. Sometimes we even stretch out in our dreams and think about something big and exciting that could be out there for us. Some people get so eager to know their future that they consult a palm reader or a psychic or delve into astrology. We might laugh at those attempts to extinguish the unknown from our lives, but how many of us would get into a time machine and do a “back-to-the-future” kind of thing if we could? I think most of us would not hesitate if we knew it was safe and that we would be guaranteed a return.

God doesn’t tell us too much about our personal future. If He did, there would be no need to trust Him and we wouldn’t grow in our faith. (Hab 2:4) "Behold the proud, His soul is not upright in him; But the just shall live by his faith. And if he revealed His plan for our lives, where would be that sense of adventure in life? God knows we have a need for adventure and following God’s leading in our lives is exciting and at times thrilling. That’s why Jesus said to “Follow Me” (Mat 9:9). We don’t know where He’s leading but we know His plans for us are good and our future filled with hope.

Here’s a few passages to meditate on in regard to God’s knowledge about our future:

(Isa 46:10) Declaring the end from the beginning, And from ancient times things that are not yet done, Saying, 'My counsel shall stand, And I will do all My pleasure,'.

(Rev 4:8) . . . "Holy, holy, holy, Lord God Almighty, Who was and is and is to come!"

The eternal God knows the end from the beginning. He is in our past, present, and our future all at the same time. Can’t figure that one out? No problem. He’s God and He’s got your life all figured out. From our time-limited framework, He’s been in our future and has come back to tell us everything’s okay! He’s got it all covered from our past to our future. God is fully trustworthy. He’s been faithful in the past, He’s taking care of us in the present, and will lead us to a beautiful future in Him. Rejoice! We might not know what the future holds, but we know who holds the future!!

(Deu 33:27) The eternal God is your refuge, And underneath are the everlasting arms . . .
