(Rom 5:5) . . . the love of God has been poured out in our hearts by the Holy Spirit who was given to us.
There are times when you can get so angry with someone. Sometimes you have the “grace” for a difficult person and other times you don’t. That person could be a jerk on the road, a customer at work, or even a family member that you know you’re supposed to love. But what do you do when you want to just blow up and scream at a person or would settle for politely ringing their neck?
Well, love is a choice. It’s not an emotion or a feeling, but a deliberate action even when the person doesn’t deserve it. The Bible says we are to love others like the Lord loved us (John 13:34). Jesus didn’t say we would necessarily feel that love, He just said to love and spoke nothing about the emotion of it.
No one likes to be pushed around or taken advantage of. But the supreme evidence that we belong to God is if we love others unconditionally. You see, it’s easy to love others who love you. But there are those difficult people that we must choose to love. Inside you and I is a well of love that will never run dry. In fact, this love has been poured out in our hearts by the Holy Spirit. That’s what you have to draw from when the love runs low. You say you want to be real with yourself and others and don’t want to fake it? Well, it’s not a matter of faking it. It’s a matter of faith-ing it. You believe God’s Word that you possess all the love you’ll ever need right inside of you. The Lord is in your heart and the Bible says God is love (1 John 4:8) so love will always be in your heart. Now respond to that by faith and watch God’s love flow when you feel your love is running low.
We are so undeserving of God’s love, but He still loves us. Others might be undeserving of your love, but you can choose to love them. It’s no doubt a true miracle that when you have ill feelings for someone and you can still love them. Then what’s even more surprising is the feelings usually follow. That’s when you scratch your head and just thank the Lord that you are a new creation in Christ and you can do all things through Christ that strengthens you. (Phil 4:13)
So, when the love runs low, let the agape love of Jesus in you flow. Wow . . . what do you know? Well, it’s who you know . . . Jesus!
