THE SIN I WAS GOING TO COMMIT

(2 Pet 2:9) then the Lord knows how to deliver the godly out of temptations . . .

We all have weak spots. We all possess sensitive areas. There’s that one place in our armour that is susceptible to the fiery darts of the wicked one. And because of that reality we have to even station a stronger guard to ward off the attacks when they come. But sometimes something sets us off and we let down our defenses and we get caught up in the emotion of the moment. We lose control, we give in, and we’re fast on our way to committing a sin.

David was furious! After all that David did for Nabal, he had refused David the supplies he needed. In his wrath David called his men to attack Nabal and his household. But Abigail, Nabal’s wife, stopped David along the way and encouraged David to a more amiable way of dealing with his enemy. David’s defenses fell, and his rage subsided. He thanked her for her intervention because there was a sin he was going to commit. (Read the full story in 1 Sam 25)

How many times have we been caught up in a negative or ungodly emotion and were rapidly on our way to committing a sin? But the Lord came to us along the way and delivered us from doing something we would later regret.

How we need the Lord to deliver us out of temptations. How weak we are and prone to giving in to that base nature of the flesh. It’s so easy to get caught up into. Our flesh wants to do this or that and seeks mastery of our will. But the Lord knows all about it and assures us that the way of the Spirit is so much better. Like Abigail calming David down and talking sense to him, so the Spirit comes to us in that comfort and conviction and settles our hearts, so we won’t do something stupid. Isn’t the Lord good?

Satan loves to draw us out of the spiritual into the physical realm where he can defeat us. But we need to fight this spiritual war with spiritual weapons! (2 Cor 10:3-4) For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war according to the flesh. 4 For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal but mighty in God for pulling down strongholds,

It’s great to know the battle belongs to the Lord. (1 Sam 17:47; 2 Chr 20:15) God has to help us and settle us down when we get worked up. God does such a better job in handling situations and then we won’t be sorry.

What ever happened to Nabal? Ten days later he died. You see, God takes care of things and keeps us from the sin we were going to commit.
