(Gal 6:10) Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all, especially to those who are of the household of faith.
Opportunities to serve the Lord abound each and every day. And probably a lot more than we would ever know. What a shame to miss even one of them! Some opportunities are subtle and we have to be discerning as to the right timing and the right way of things. A prayer breathed to the Father will give wisdom and guidance in the situation. Other opportunities to serve are rather obvious and the Lord is putting emphasis on the urgency. If we fail then we miss out on the privilege of serving in Jesus’ name and the reward that goes along with it.
We know many sins are sins of commission. These are things that we do that are wrong. Other sins are sins of omission. This is the sin of not doing what God told you to do through His Word or through the prompting of the Holy Spirit and in obedience to His call. We know the classic example of the priest and Levite who passed by an opportunity to serve a dying man. Then the Samaritan man came along, saw the need, and responded with a heart of compassion that cost him time, money, and a lot of energy in his service. But a man was saved who would of otherwise died (Luke 10:29-37)
The Bible says, “(Gal 4:4) But when the fullness of the time had come, God sent forth His Son...”. God did not omit what He knew He had to do for our salvation. He sent down His Son to be a ransom for many. Aren’t you glad? And now we show our gratitude to God by reaching out to others as God gives us the opportunity. And usually the time to serve is NOW! When we hesitate today, the door might not be open tomorrow. Proverbs 3:27 says, “Do not withhold good from those to whom it is due, When it is in the power of your hand to do so.”
Let’s be faithful to walk through the doors God opens in front of us. The world is in need of the touch of the Master’s hand. May we be the glove He wears to bring healing to many hurting souls in His wonderful name!
