Isn’t it incredible how our kids are so good at those video games? They spend hours perfecting their hand-eye coordination that the average adult shouldn’t dare to compete with. They’re always wanting to play and they’re always wanting the new game that’s come out. I was always outside doing something like riding my bike or playing with my friends. Of course, that was when dinosaurs roamed the land! I know it’s the video generation and I got to get with it. But I hate losing to kids!!
But do our kids know as much about Nicodemus than they do about Nintendo? Do they know as much about who played the harp in Psalms as they do about PlayStation? Interesting question isn’t it? But one thing we do know is that we can raise our kids with the knowledge of Scripture and this will make them wise for salvation.
Timothy’s grandmother and mother had faith in the Lord, which they passed down to Timothy. (2 Tim 1:5) when I call to remembrance the genuine faith that is in you, which dwelt first in your grandmother Lois and your mother Eunice, and I am persuaded is in you also. He had a great spiritual heritage that came from that faith passed down and the Scriptures taught to him. When he got older he accepted Jesus under Paul’s missionary outreach in his hometown of Lystra and became a devoted helper to Paul (Acts 16:1-5). Later on Paul had this commendation about Timothy: (Phil 2:20-22) For I have no one like-minded, who will sincerely care for your state. 21 For all seek their own, not the things which are of Christ Jesus. 22 But you know his proven character, that as a son with his father he served with me in the gospel. What a guy Timothy was. And it’s because he knew the Word from childhood.
Let’s get our children full of Scripture. Let’s fill their barrel so full that Satan can’t fit a single grain into their lives. They can get the Word at Sunday school, but the greatest filling station is at home. Teach them the Word and pass down that genuine faith to them. Then they can be presented to God for the awesome plans He has for them when they reach maturity!
