LED BY THE SPIRIT

(Rom 8:14) For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, these are sons of God.

Being led by God is the most thrilling of experiences on earth. Just to know that the Spirit is leading you is so exciting. And then to find out that the Lord was leading you when you didn’t even know it stirs your heart even more!

Do you remember this story?: (Luke 2:25-29) And behold, there was a man in Jerusalem whose name was Simeon, and this man was just and devout, waiting for the Consolation of Israel, and the Holy Spirit was upon him. 26 And it had been revealed to him by the Holy Spirit that he would not see death before he had seen the Lord's Christ. 27 So he came by the Spirit into the temple. And when the parents brought in the Child Jesus, to do for Him according to the custom of the law, 28 he took Him up in his arms and blessed God and said: 29 "Lord, now You are letting Your servant depart in peace, According to Your word.

What a joy Simeon had being led by the Spirit to the Temple that day. He was able to see the Christ child and to bring blessings to the parents.

This past year, two brothers in the Lord and I were in Japan together. We stopped in Tokyo on our way to Okinawa. There in the big city you can go up into the Tokyo Metropolitan Government Office tower to view what most people say is the largest city in the world. We had had a busy day and we walked a long way to access this building. We were longing to relax in our hotel and were wondering why we were pushing ourselves so much.

But our answer came quickly because at the elevators was a young woman from South Korea who was backpacking around the world. She was in line behind us waiting for the elevator, as we were, to reach the observatory. We started talking to her and then when the door opened only the four of us entered. We began sharing the Lord with her. She was obviously on a trek to find what life was all about and now as the doors were opening to floor number 45 the answer was presenting itself. She wouldn’t leave us alone. She was hungry for the truth. We explained the gospel to her and gave her some tracts. The Lord prompted me to give her my pocket New Testament. I wasn’t too eager because it was such a cool travel Bible, but the Lord said to give it to her. I told her to start at the beginning at the gospel of Matthew (I usually say the gospel of John) and I bookmarked it for her. She quickly replied that her father’s name was Matthew! I love being led by the Spirit. And I didn’t even have a clue what the Lord had in store.

I believe the Lord hears that request in the morning when we pray and ask that God will lead us throughout the day. We just need to obey the promptings of the Spirit. It might not make sense but later we’ll find out the Lord was in it all. Things like . . . you didn’t want to hassle going to the store just for milk but, lo and behold, when you got there you ran into that person you were able to influence for Christ. (Gen 24:27) . . . As for me, being on the way, the LORD led me . . . You know, living like this is almost too much fun!
