Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. (Eph 6:11)
Have you ever had the dream where you were in public wearing your pajamas? You were walking around, and everyone was looking at you and staring. It was the worst thing that could ever happen . . . a social nightmare . . . until you woke up! Well, that’s how we should feel as believers. We need to be mortified about wearing our sleepwear in the battle zone. The Bible says we are in a spiritual war and we need to put on the whole armor of God. So, what do we wear? (from Eph 6:10-18):
-THE BELT OF TRUTH - Refers to a believer’s integrity and honesty that will oppose the father of lies. (1 John 1:5-10; John 8:44)
-BREASTPLATE OF RIGHTEOUSNESS - Righteous living that guards a believer’s heart against the assaults of the devil. (Psa 34:17)
-GOSPEL SHOES - The Christian soldier needs firm soles to win souls. (1 Cor 3:11; Rom 10:15)
-SHIELD OF FAITH - That quenches the fiery missiles of hell launched against us. (Mark 11:22-24)
-HELMET OF SALVATION - The hope of His coming, which protects our minds against discouragement. (1 Thes 5:8; Titus 2:13)
-SWORD OF THE SPIRIT - The Word of God . . . our offensive weapon that makes Satan run. (Mat 4:1-11)
And don’t forget PRAYER (v. 18). That’s how you put your armor on.
So, here’s the question: Are you in your pajamas at a slumber party? Or are you a ready warrior dressed for battle? Come on soldier . . . it’s time to fight the good fight of faith! (1 Tim 6:12)
