(Mark 1:35) Now in the morning, having risen a long while before daylight, He went out and departed to a solitary place; and there He prayed.
Our lives seem directed by appointments. We have appointments with the doctor, appointments to get our haircut, appointments with our clients, etc. We usually make a note of our appointments so we will not forget. The reason we do this is because these appointments are important to us. They affect our health, our appearance, our business, and so on. To miss an appointment makes us feel bad, and we apologize for any inconvenience and humble ourselves to reschedule.
Jesus made an appointment to be with His Father alone. He had been traveling and healing many. He was desiring fellowship with His Father that would refresh His heart and replenish His resources to continue on doing the Father’s will. He put this prayer time in priority to the rest of His day. He got up early, drew away from others, found a quiet place, and there shared His heart with the One He always longed to be with.
Now if Jesus saw the need to make an appointment with the Father, how about us? How wonderful it is to have that daily appointment with God. To get alone in some quiet spot and open His Word and let Him speak to us…and then to spend time speaking with Him in prayer. God is always there keeping His appointment with us. When we draw near to Him He will then draw near to us (James 4:8). Can’t connect in the morning? Well, heaven is open 24 hours a day. Just make an appointment and God will be there waiting for you because He loves you and wants to tell you something your heart is longing to hear.
