(2 Cor 12:9) And He said to me, "My grace is sufficient for you, for My strength is made perfect in weakness." Therefore most gladly I will rather boast in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me.
Do you ever feel like you just don’t have enough strength or inspiration to match each day’s demands? And does this make you want to quit before you even start trying? Well, I’ve got good news for you. You don’t have to have it all together to do God’s will! Or to put it another way . . . you can still make music with a five-string guitar.
One time I was leading worship with my guitar and one of my guitar strings broke right at the beginning of the worship time. That’s the worst thing to happen to a worship leader because that means you have to play the rest of the songs on a five-string guitar. It’s awkward. It’s hard to finger the chords. It doesn’t sound full. You want to put the guitar down and just forget it. But you have to continue and just trust the Lord. And you know what else I’ve experienced? I’ve had people come up and tell me that they really enjoyed the worship and that the Lord had touched their hearts during the time of praise and singing. And some didn’t even know that I had broken a string!
What a liberating thought. I don’t have to have it all together in life. I can feel weak and God still loves me and will use me. I can achieve my goals slowly but surely. And I can reach out and touch someone for Christ and make a difference even when I feel so feeble and frail. And then to think that most of the time people are not even aware how weak I feel within myself. God’s strength in my weakness covers my shame and I can do something in Jesus’ name! Hallelujah!!
Beautiful melodies can still be played from a five-string guitar.
